Job Description

Overnight caregivers provide personal care for one to three terminally ill people in our small home setting.

Tasks are similar to what a family caregiver does, and is done in close coordination with the team and under the direction of the coordinator.

Our small home environment uniquely allows caregivers to spend quality time with guests and provide compassionate care.

  • Overnight hours are from 10pm to 8am with some flexibility required 
  • Full attendance at bi-monthly team meetings is required
  • Caregiving experience is preferred.
  • Must be physically able to assist with transfers and position changes, be a strong critical thinker and communicator.
  • Orientation and additional training on practical skills will be provided.


Caregiver duties may include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Providing companionship and a loving presence to our guests
  • Assisting with walking, moving, posit ion changes, etc.
  • Assisting with personal hygiene care (mouth care, bathroom assistance, grooming, etc.)
  • Giving and overseeing medication as directed
  • Meal preparation and light house hold tasks (cleaning bath rooms, mopping floors, washing dishes, doing laundry, dusting, etc.)
  • Answering the phone and door as needed
  • Effective communication and a team player mentality
  • Assisting with other tasks similar to what a family caregiver would provide.

Summary: 

The Volunteer Coordinator is a member of the Mother Teresa House community supporting one another and providing planning, training, onboarding, scheduling and overall coordination for volunteer caregivers.

Reports to: Director

Qualifications:   

  • Commitment to working as a group.
  • Able to embrace the mission and service attitude of the ministry.
  • Ability to communicate well and teach training material
  • Able to plan out, implement and maintain complex caregiver schedules.
  • Ability to use computer software to complete work duties including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Sharepoint) and scheduling software.

Duties: 

  • Commitment to scheduled hours.
  • Volunteer Coordinator duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Process volunteer applications and inquiries.
    • Plan for and schedule volunteer training, prepare and teach training material.
    • Track and complete onboarding steps including interviews for new volunteers.
    • Provide ongoing oversite for volunteers including quarterly follow up and support.
    • Recruit volunteers from church communities, local colleges and other organizations.
    • Plan for and recruit students for Internship positions
    • Plan for and recruit Live In volunteer. Coordinate services and support for Live In.
  • Scheduler duties may include, but are not limited to:
    • Plan for future volunteer needs, and schedule volunteers to fill all caregiver shifts.
    • Create and update all caregiver schedules by deadlines.
  • Completion of initial orientation and participation in ongoing training.
  • Administrative tasks including filing and record keeping.
  • Participation in staff meetings and staff sessions deemed necessary by Mother Teresa House.
  • Additional administrative tasks or special projects requested by Mother Teresa House.
  • Participation in Mother Teresa House special events to support the mission.

Hours:

  • Available 16 hours per week, up to 30 hours. Hours fluctuate related to needs.
  • Available quarterly on a week day evening and a weekend for training volunteers.
  • Some work activities may be completed from home if agreed to with Director.
